Rules and Regulations

PLEASE NOTE:  Registration deadline for the 2008 Parade is Thanksgiving Monday, October 13, 2008. Contact us late Aug/early Sept. to register on time!

Float dimensions

Float dimensions must meet specifications for trailers under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act. Consult your carrier, or phone MTO Carrier Enforcement for clarification.

Theme and Decor

All floats must have a Christmas theme. All vehicles must be decorated. No Santa Claus-like (or Mrs. Claus-like) figure shall appear anywhere other than on the Official Santa Claus Float.

Ours is a night parade; light your float; plan for a generator.

Operators

The person in charge of the float must remain with that float throughout the parade and have a cell phone. The cell phone must be “on” from one hour prior to the parade and remain on for at least one hour following the parade. We suggest putting the phone on VIBRATE as parade noise may drown out ringing.

This person and the cell number must be indicated on the registration form. Changes must be reported to the committee.

Behaviour in the Parade

  • Participants must maintain a forward motion throughout the parade.
  • There will be no drilling or unauthorized stops on the route.
  • Units must keep proper spacing always! A measure of one trailer length is desirable.

In the interest of public safety,

  • Stay to YOUR side of the road. DO NOT alternate from side to side; crossing the center median and walking between moving floats could prove dangerous.
  • Nothing shall be handed or thrown to spectators directly from floats or other vehicles.
  • Candy/gifts for children must have prior approval. You must provide responsible adults to walk close to the crowd to distribute them safely.
  • Participants may NOT hand out pamphlets or written material of any kind. We are required to keep litter under control!!
  • Refrain from smoking.
  • Do not consume or give the impression of consuming alcoholic beverages.
  • Participants in the parade shall not promote political views or political parties.

Judging and Awards

  • Rogers Community 20 will televise the Cambridge Santa Claus Parade.
  • Bands and floats will be judged along the whole parade route.
  • Awards will be sent to the winners after the parade.

Information submitted with your entry form must be legible. It will be used by the judges and on-air hosts.

Parade Participants are covered by insurance against personal liability. (held by the Corporation of the City of Cambridge)

THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE CAMBRIDGE SANTA CLAUS PARADE. WE HOPE YOU HAVE FUN AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ON PARADE NIGHT!
